The importance of Business Tourism continues to expand around the world, with a growing number of new destinations and venues targeting the market for Conferences, Exhibitions and Incentive Travel. In most countries in the developed world, income from Business Tourism now represents between one-third and one-quarter of all tourism spending.

This is therefore a subject that deserves the attention of academics and researchers everywhere, and recently there has been considerable growth in the number of Universities offering courses related to Business Tourism and Business Events.

The ATLAS Business Tourism conference has become the most important international annual forum for the exchange of ideas and the sharing of best practice in teaching and researching this subject. This year’s conference will focus on a broad range of topics that are related to education, research, and management in the field of business events.

Abstract submission

All abstracts will be subject to double-blind review by members of the scientific committee. Acceptance of a submission will be based on: theoretical and empirical significance; methodological soundness; relevance to the theme of the conference and logical clarity. The official language of the conference is English.

Abstracts should be submitted to ATLAS before March 28st, 2019.

Abstracts should indicate background, theoretical/practical implications, methods and/or data sources and indicative findings of the paper. Abstracts should have between 350-500 words. The title should be no more than 12 words. Authors should also indicate which conference topic their proposed paper relates to.

Publication details

Papers presented at the conference and subsequently written up as full papers will be considered for a special issue of the International Journal of Tourism Cities, which will have the theme of 'Business Events in Tourism Cities'.

Cancellation policy

If written cancellation is received before April 29th, 2019, a refund of all meeting fees will be made, minus an administration fee of € 50. No refund will be possible after April 29th, 2019, but substitute delegates can be nominated.
