 In memoriam - Bob Wishitemi

It is with great sadness to inform you of the demise of Prof. Bob Wishitemi. He passed on after a very short illness last weekend. Together with his colleagues at MOI University, Kenya, Bob developed a very successful tourism department and program. He always was a great supporter of ATLAS Africa, attended many conferences and acted as a keynote speaker. Based on three ATLAS AFRICA conferences between 2000 and 2006, together with Anna Spenceley and Harry Wels he published the book ‘Culture and Community. Tourism studies in Eastern and Southern Africa’ in 2007. His scholarly work focused on the relation between tourism, communities and nature conservation. But more importantly we will remember him as a friend, a father figure, a teacher, and as a mentor of many.

 ATLAS supports Tourism From Zero

Recent weeks and last years’ overtourism issues showed us both the benefits, the relevance, and the limits of the tourism, hospitality and leisure industries for society. At this point, we cannot foresee the future, but we can listen to challenges and start developing solutions.
